Welcome!

The Taber Tuff is a rugged and scenic trail-running event set in the coulees of Taber Municipal Park, just a few kilometers outside Taber, Alberta, nestled along the Oldman River. First launched in 2019, the event is organized by Trail 77, a local volunteer-run association that maintains over 30 km of singletrack trails and encourages outdoor recreation across age groups within the community

Held annually on the second Saturday in July, the 2025 edition took place on July 12, with race offerings of 6 km, 12.5 km, and 25 km distances (the latter being a two‑loop version of the 12.5K course) Events typically start in the early morning — the 25K at 7:00 a.m., followed by the 12.5K at 7:15 a.m., and the 6K at 7:30 a.m. For added flexibility, some years allow runners to complete the course on any day within the same week, submitting their times via Garmin or Strava.

The terrain is wild and scenic – approximately 95% un‑paved single track that winds through wooded campground areas, coulee ridgelines, steep ravines, and sandy hillsides. The first segment is relatively gentle, offering wooded trails and rolling hills, but between kilometers 4 and 6, runners encounter rugged singletrack with erosion-prone edges, loose sand, and exposed coulee slopes that demand careful footing and focus, especially in warm conditions An ultra-distance runner described the course as a “baby ultra”—perfect for first-timers or those preparing for longer races.

For those considering race day logistics, the event keeps field sizes modest (often capped around 150 participants) to preserve an intimate and supportive atmosphere Early‑bird registration generally costs around CAD 75, and there is no prize money—this race is more about experience than competition.

Overall, the Taber Tuff is a compelling choice for anyone in Southern Alberta seeking an accessible ultra-type adventure in a lesser-known but remarkably scenic landscape. Whether you’re targeting the 6 km as a stroll through coulees, the 12.5 km loop for a solid trail training session, or the 25 km for your first ultra challenge—you’ll be treated to rugged terrain, professional organization, and a community-oriented race spirit.
